Things to Know About Basement Sump Pumps

Basement sump pumps are known to be the last line of defense when it comes to protecting your house from flooding or any water damage caused by excessive water invading your basement. This is especially true for those of us who live in a flood zone. Basement sump pumps play a big role during wet seasons all around the United States.

If you are a new homeowner, you may never hear or knew about basement sump pumps and where they are installed. That’s exactly what happened to me when I got my first home. I didn’t know anything about our sump pump because the previous homeowner covered the sump pit with a custom-made wood cabinet right above it.

I found out about our basement sump pump when I heard weird noise during the rainy season. Every 10-15 minutes I could hear a pumping sound from our basement. I actually asked my neighbor to come over and investigate where the sound was coming from. Only after he explained to me how basement sump pumps work and where our sump pump is located, I realized it was a good sign.
